Jessica Mauboy releases a music video for her latest single "What Happened to Us," featuring Jay Sean. "What Happened to Us" is taken from Jessica's second studio album called "Get 'Em Girls," released In Australia in November 2010.

Jessica Mauboy has just released a music video for her latest single "What Happened to Us". After sharing screen with rappers Snoop Dogg and Ludacris in her two previous clips, the Aussie singer now hooks up with Jay Sean in this brand new video.

"What Happened to Us" is taken from Jessica's second studio album called "Get 'Em Girls" which has been released Down Under since November 2010. Beside Snoop, Luda and Jay, the other featured guest in the record is Iyaz.

Jessica was recently booked to open for Chris Brown when he made his first trip Down Under since assaulting his ex-girlfriend Rihanna. His Australian tour will be kicked off on April 20 at Adelaide Entertainment Centre and wrapped up on May 3 at Burswood Dome, Perth.

Also, BlackBerry Torch gets featured in Jessica's music video. They have given RIM permission to post their latest music video “What Happened to Us” 24 hours before its release. The first minute or so of the video has multiple shots of a BlackBerry Torch getting featured.

Mauboy delights Indigenous youngsters

About 40 young Indigenous Canberrans are smiling after meeting their idol at the Gugan Gulwan Youth Centre in Wanniassa.

Singer-songwriter Jessica Mauboy is the face of this year's National Multicultural Festival, which kicks off on February 11.

The former Australian Idol star made an early visit to the city on Thursday to get up close and personal with her young fans.

"I like Jessica because she sings and because I like to dance to her songs," said four-year-old Tea, who had a photograph for Mauboy to sign.

Mauboy says she enjoys working with children.

"When I'm working with young kids, I like to relate to them through my music. I used to do a lot of community work in Darwin and especially multicultural work and for the youth," she said.

Now pursuing a career in the United States, the 21-year-old is glad to be back in her home country, reconnecting with her heritage.

"I grew up with the Indonesian and Aboriginal music so they collaborate a lot in my music and I'm looking forward to hearing local artists at the festival," she said.

"I love Canberra. I've been here many times. It has just this natural smell and feeling and I find it really spiritual like my hometown Darwin."

Mauboy joins several other Indigenous celebrities for the three-day festival including chef Mark Olive and fellow singer-songwriter Troy Cassar-Daley.

"Canberra is a strong community and has strong Indigenous connections to the land. We recognise that and we work with the traditional owners and the Aboriginal people across the broader community," said ACT Multicultural Affairs Minister Joy Burch.

"For Jessica to recognise that I think is a good connection for our local community."

Mauboy also paid a visit to the Bimberi Youth Justice Centre in Mitchell which accommodates 40 young people aged from 10 to 18. Fourteen of them are Indigenous.

"These are disadvantaged kids who don't get much exposure to role models. I just hope to give them a little inspiration," Mauboy said.

"Growing up I never thought I would be a role model myself but I love what I'm doing."

Mauboy will be performing at the festival's opening night on February 11 at Garema Place in the city centre.

Jess hurt by sexy song backlash to Get 'Em Girls

JESSICA Mauboy says she felt hurt and was forced to question herself after the negative reaction to her recent single, Get 'Em Girls. 

Critics and fans claimed the 21-year-old songstress had become too sexy and moved away from her "good girl" image in the clip for the track, which featured American rapper Snoop Dogg.

Some argued footage of Snoop Dogg leering at a scantily dressed Mauboy was confronting for her fans.

"I read the comments about the video for Get 'Em Girls and I felt upset a little bit," she said.

"I had to ask myself, 'Did I do the right thing? Did I really follow my heart?' They said I wasn't the old Jess.

"It kind of hurt me a little bit."

Although industry insiders questioned the appropriateness of the song as the album's first single, both have been certified gold.

"My confidence is right back up again," she said.
  

Second single release Saturday Night is a collaboration with Ludacris.

"I'm growing up and every artist evolves and is being more creative each time"

In the four years since she was runner-up to Damien Leith on Australian Idol, the singer says she has had to learn to roll with the punches. Despite her many chart successes, just like Guy Sebastian, Mauboy has struggled to gain recognition from an indie-heavy focussed industry.


She was snubbed at the ARIA Awards in 2009 despite seven nominations.


"You fall over and you get back up again," said Mauboy, who rang in the New Year performing at the Palazzo Versace hotel on the Gold Coast.


Last year, as well as enjoying success in her music career, Mauboy starred and was praised in her first feature film, Bran Nue Dae.


This year, there are rumours Mauboy will support Chris Brown on his yet-to-be announced national tour.


In her love life, Mauboy's long-distance relationship with Darwin council worker and soccer player Themeli Magripilis is going strong.


"It's not marriage or anything like that," she laughed.

Sassy new sound for Jessica Mauboy

Darwin diva Jessica Mauboy has moved up the Australian music charts.

Go Get Em: Jessica Mauboy says she is pleased with the response to her new album.

Her single, Saturday Night, featuring Ludacris, has climbed from 10th to seventh on the charts.

This is the video and it's sure way better than the previous video 'Get Em Girls'. Yes, the rapper has been removed from this version of the song - and it's 100% pure Jess. The clip is another one directed by Hype Williams.

Sassy New Sound for Jessica Mauboy

Former Australian Idol winner Jessica Mauboy is back with a new album and a sassier sound.

Mauboy is the first to admit that her first album, the double platinum Been Waiting, was a 'safe' choice musically.

Her second album, which was released in New Zealand in November, Get 'Em Girls, ramps up her sound and features a who's who of US music producers, as well as collaborations with Ludacris, Snoop Dogg and Jay Sean.

To make the album Mauboy left Australia and went to the United States to find her sound.

"I travelled over to the States on my own and it was nice to become independent and become in control of the album," Mauboy says.

"It was really interesting to see how I would work around unfamiliar people, it was nice to get my grounding.

"I really found I became so much stronger and that stepped up the album musically and lyrically.

The first single released off the new album features rapper Snoop Dogg, who also appears in the video.

"It was quite nerve-wracking at first. Going overseas and being in a different environment and a different culture was hard enough but to be there with Snoop Dogg who I look up to was amazing.

"We thought he'd come in and demand so many things but he totally wasn't like that at all.

"It was nice to sit back and watch him do his thing!"

Mauboy says the response to the album so far has been "incredible".

"I just wanted the reaction to be 'What the? She's saying all these things... and what?'

"People really recognise my music now," she says.

"I'm really happy that people are getting that urban R 'n' B style."

A recent performance on the Australian television talent show The X Factor saw Mauboy come full circle - four years after she won Australian Idol.

"It was really nice to be back on stage. I did Idol in 06 so it was nice to go back and be like 'I'm growing' and to go back on air and show everyone what I've been up to."

Mauboy plans to tour Australia and New Zealand in 2011 to show her fans what she has been up to too.
